does anyone know how to remove a stuck key from the ignition of a 1998 mercury mystique?the car will turn on and start but the shifter is locked too so i cant go anywhere

Do you hear a click when you step on the brake? theres a little arm on the right side of the shifter that locks the stick release button from going down. Use an allan key to take off the shifter knob, then lift up the cover - you 'll see the little solenoid on the right. You can just tie it off if you want. But you still want t find out why the solenoid isn't working
