93 merc noise

when the motor is running sometimes when driving sometimes when setting still it makes a noise that sounds a lot like a fog horn the noise comes out of the breather tube that goes from the air intake snorkel down to the back side of the motor i have changed the pcv valve but it still makes the noise it is hard to check because it doesnt make the noise setting still as much as when it is moving any ideas anyone

Personally, I'd take it to a good mechanic. It's worth the money.

Ford called it "engine moose" I can't remember what causes it, but it was covered by warranty back in the 90's

Most of the time this is caused by the air idle control valve. Over time the valve seal fails. It is located on the intake plenum and is electronic. A google search on the year make and model will show a picture of it. A rough idle can also be associated with the problem.
