2005 Nissan Xterra- Blower motor making very loud nosie while driving. Any one had this problem?

I had this problem, on top of the blower motor resistor burning up (no-go on speeds 1 through 3, but worked on 4 where resistor is bypassed). One of the three resistances is open (burned up) again six months after my last resistor replacement, so it's probably been the motor all along. I checked the resistance of the motor and it is 0.1 ohms, which I assume is too low. I checked the blower on my wife's Subaru and it's 0.6, which I believe to be typical. 20 amps is about normal draw, use ohms law, resistance equals voltage over current, 12v/20A = 0.6 ohms. After removing the blower motor from the xterra, I spun the impeller by hand to check for a possible bearing problem. It surely didn't see as free as I expected, too much friction. A full-effort manual spin and it comes to a stop after 2 seconds or so. The motor occasionally makes a loud squealing noise, and also gives out a nice scraping sound after shutting the motor off. May be a combination of bearing or motor winding problems. I'd like to think that the bearing problem caused overheating and shorted out some windings or damaged the brushes. New blower motors seem to be between $100-$150, so I'm going to attempt a motor replacement. I'm very curious to see the electrical resistance of the new blower as well as how much friction the new unit has when spun by hand.
