It could be the factory recommended time to change the timing belt coming up. If The timing belt is bad, as in broken, the engine isn't going to start. Now for the cats. What your saying is classic bad catalytic converters . I've never had good luck with the universal replacements. And while you're there do the O2 sensors.
I'm not worried about the transmission.
