I have applied brake before trying to move it out but it won't go.

The button on the gear shifter is stuck. When I go to press it in it doesn't engage all the way. Could there be a safety inside the gear shifter?

Remove cover for shifter release. Push down on release and hold down while you shift out of park. I have to do this every time I leave for work.
