Based on your mileage, you can easily lease as most leases keep you under 12K miles for a year and most are 4 years. You said you like to hold onto a vehicle for 15 years. Then I would say to purchase it. Leasing aka renting, is only for someone who wants to drive a vehicle they can't normally afford for a short duration. You can get a cheap monthly payments this way. You can purchase the vehicle after the lease if you want, but after 4 years of lease payments, you then will still be buying it as a used car . If you don't have the cash, then you will have to pick up a loan payment of another 4 or 5 years, so 8 or 9 years of car payments.

A lease might work for you but a typical lease only lasts 4 years or so. Garage it if you can to avoid hefty fees for damage to the car. I would not recommend hanging onto a BMW for 15 years.

Sounds like you have the same mindset as me. I keep a vehicle until it starts costing me money, frequently, for repairs. I enjoy the ten or so years of not having a car payment. I bought my 93 Caprice new and had it for 19 years. At present I have no intention of replacing my 08 Grand Marquis. It hasn't started costing me money and it's been a great car. Plus, look around, how many older BMWs do you see on the road? Not many. A guy at work has a 16 M6 that is an absolute piece of junk! He put $3500 into it back in the summer for repairs and last month he got broke down and it cost him another $6000 in repairs! BMW Dealers are snooty about working on older models too. After about 10 years don't expect them to be happy about working on your BMW! So my advice is buy something that is not so high end. Other imports have very nice flagship models that will be more reliable over the long haul! Hope that helps! Jim
