plugged radiator ?,fans are turning on ? what did the coolant look like when you changed the stat. ? hopefully it's not a head gasket , if it can sit there and idle for some time and the gauge stays at operating temp. probably not , pull the oil fill cap look at the bottom of it and let us know what you see .

Change the thermostat the one we took off was bad oil look goog but inside radiator the owner before week look like they had put some kind of leak stuff in it and was pretty thick where u remove the cap but there no leaks anywhere I think the water not running all the way thru to the engine cause the cap not hot when it overheat

I have an 04 olds silouette. & I had the same prob I popped the hood & checked under the hood & I seen the upper radiator hose pinched closed by the over flow tank so I twisted the cap just a lil bit & it released through the hose & replaced the radiator cap & fixed it

I am having this same problem. One very cold (20 degrees) morning the heat quit blowing warm. It was blowing warm air, then all of the sudden it turned cold, like AC was on. The temperature gauge rose fairly high, the the air turned warm again, and the temp gauge dropped back to normal. Over a few days, it continued and got worse. It stopped blowing warm air altogether and will overheat after a few miles. Had water pump replaced. Problem seemed fixed until the next cold morning. Then had thermostat changed. Again, fixed until the next morning. I’m not a mechanic. I don’t know how to solve this problem.

Mine sits on that line between 100 and 220. Had no heat for a little while, got moving it was ok, heat kicked on again
