2022 Outback rear fan

Asked by Guru9NQLBK Feb 02, 2022 at 08:25 AM about the 2022 Subaru Outback

Question type: General

I walked in my garage and heard what sounded like a fan or small pump
running. When I pin pointed the sound it was coming from the underneath side
of the rear axle/tire area on the new 2022 Outback I recently purchased. The
car was not running and had been in the garage for multiple hours from the
previous use. Can you tell me what this is?

It's normal. All Subaru's do it. The vehicle performs a fuel evap test. which last a few minutes. It pressurizes the system and check for a leak in the system. It runs about 3 to 4 hrs after you turn off the vehicle.
