Whatever is going on happened to the old belt. it got shredded so we bought a new belt and it is the correct one, but it looks like the crank isn't lined up with the other pulley and it is causing the belt to come off of the crank. Could it be a misalignment if a pulley or shaft somewhere and if so, how do we figure it out?

It is likely that the harmonic balancer (crank pulley assembly) is bad and has separated from it's rubber isolating material. This causes the belt to be miss-aligned and come off.
