2004 Pontiac Grand Prix starting issues

Asked by yfz350twin Dec 23, 2018 at 11:04 AM about the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Grand Prix and it starts decent when cold and runs fine when running but when I shut if off after driving it and try to start it again it doesn't want to start without a little revving.  But once it's started it runs fine.  Could this be the fuel pump?

Scan it tor trouble codes and give it a good tune up if it hasn't had one recently... or ever. Sounds like something fairly minor.

I have same issue with my 2005. We can't seem to find answer unless engine light on, I was told.

The engine light doesn't have to come on for codes to be stored. As well, even if the engine light comes on and then goes off again as often happens, the code is still stored in the computer. Unless the codes are cleared I'm pretty sure they stay in there forever.

I would do a tuneup and filter change and run a good fuel system cleaner.

It's your intake manifold gaskets. I just bought my 3rd Grand Prix had to change them in my last 2 and my new one needs them as well.

I have an update. I took the throttle body apart and cleaned it and it starts perfectly now.
