No heat, temp gauge high, no dashboard lights

Asked by No_Body Feb 23, 2015 at 11:18 AM about the 2004 Pontiac Vibe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For the past 7 to 8 months heat & A/C only worked on high setting.  Now no heat at all and temp gauge keeps going high.  Added coolant, heat worked immediately but very briefly, later that day heat was not working. Temp gauge still going to high.  Also all lights have slowly gone out on dash & floor console.

Check your coolant level to make sure you have sufficient flowing through your system. If that is OK and there are no obvious leaks, then see if your thermostat is allowing coolant to flow into the radiator from the engine block. If that checks out, check to see that your water pump is circulating coolant through the system. If none of these correct your heat/overheat problem get back to us and tell us what you found.
