timing or screwed?

Asked by jimdetective Mar 09, 2013 at 06:20 PM about the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ok guys  i had a cam gear move as a result of a loose timing chain.so i bought a new tensioner for the chain. here is the problem getting it back in time. i did the three colored link thing at tdc and still no go. so is threre something i am missing maybe balance shafts have to also be timed together at the same time? also i did stupidly try to turn the car over and am aware that is really not good but i am assuming all is still well. any help?

What engine? V6 or Ecotec? Head over to GAOwnersClub.com - there are a lot of owners with a lot of experience and they can work with you for days if need be to get it put back together.

How did the gear move from a loose chain. Maybe you have a different original problem from what your trying to fix.

when setting timing must start with no 1 piston at tdc you did that ,but was it tdc on the compression stroke ,with both valves closed.the next flip will put tdc with a valve open full turn off on crank
