Help!

Asked by Julie Mar 07, 2017 at 09:31 AM about the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased a used car recently and after about 2
weeks I've gotten the dreaded check engine light.
I've taken it to Auto Zone and these are the codes
it's indicating p1404, p0443, p0449 & p0141. Are
these easy fixes that I can do or should I leave it to
the professionals if so any idea of the cost I'm
looking at? Thank You!

I'd say to bring it in for repair...P1404 PONTIAC - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Closed Position Performance...Possible causes; Carbon blockage of the pintle, Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve...On some models, there is a service bulletin for the P1404 code that suggests reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to repair the problem.......P0443 PONTIAC - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Malfunction...Possible causes, Faulty Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control, Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control harness is open or shorted, Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control circuit poor electrical connection......P0449 PONTIAC - Evaporative Emission Vent Valve Solenoid Malfunction...Possible causes; Vacuum leaks, damaged hoses or improper routing, EVAP system Check fuel cap, canister, valves or components Faulty purge or vent solenoids, Check connector and wiring Fuel saturated vapor canister, Failed EVAP vent solenoid......P0141 PONTIAC - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 2...Possible causes; Faulty Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS)Bank 1 Sensor 2, Heated Oxygen Sensor, (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit fuse, Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit open shorted to ground, Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit poor electrical connection, Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Oh boy...that's alot of stuff that I understand about 1/3 of. Am I looking at a $300 or $1000 fix? Ugh the bad luck! Thanks for your help!

All reason stated above need to be considered before O2 sensor replacements as it may just be money wasted. If any one of the above issues are present. Diagnoses is a must. Do not replace parts aimlessly.
