2002 Pontiac Grand Am, broken timing chain, engine will not run

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with a broken timing chain. My question is: how difficult will this be to fix and what other damage might have been caused to the engine when the chain broke? I was also told that if the water pump went out it might have caused the chain to break. Any advice would help. Thanks :)

have you tried getting a new car
possible you dropped valves in2 the piston...major work ..head work pistons valves rods crank possible...major
time for another car OR if u like this one alot, get a factory rebuilt engine / recycled engine.

Thanks Jason, I thought I might need to have the engine replaced but wasn't sure if there was an easier fix. Thanks again for the advice. I appreciate it.
i'm running the Riviera on a factory rebuild.. it was ok and it lasts.. i have 70k miles on it but #2 cylinder is starting to leak oil. bad valve guide/rings? i'm investigating.
thye are not bad if you have the proper tools and that is the magic work special tools
you will need to either replace the heads or the valves, which ever is cheaper, or go for a new/used engine. the pistons likely made contact with the valves and caused damage
The 2002's and the early 2003's had a poorly designed timing chain oiler. It didn't work well enough at higher RPM's. If you are repairing a timing chain failure, update the chain oiling system and chain guides. Replace the water pump at the same time too.
