2000 grand am. what would cause the right front end to drop several inches to the point that the tire is almost rubbing on wheel well. heard some nasty breaking type noises that passed under the car. thought i had a flat but no. still drives straight. strut or spring? pls help

Yes. Examine your front end parts and look for any broken components on that side. If you don't find anything broken or loose, inspect the shock/strut on the sagging side and look for signs of fluid leak or weakness as evidenced by that corner of the car moving up and down with little resistance. If that is found, replace the struts (on both sides).
