Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Well to start my problem off my car would jump from 2 1/2 rpm to around 5
rpm when I would hit about 55 mph. it stopped doing that a couple days later
then as soon as my girlfriend opened her door to go in the gas station the
car died. well after numerous attempts to check the main problems of a car
dying, we had no luck. So I decide to go in and buy a can of starting fluid.
Still car did not start not even for a second. Now everytime I try to start it it
just smells like rotten eggs. Any suggestions? O and I have a 2000 Pontiac

Tell your girlfriend not to open the door anymore! Can't tell what is wrong from the information you give but it could be a bad catalytic converter and your transmission might have a problem too.

Hi Full_of_Regrets, I thought converter too due to the egg smell but that would not make it not even start. I am thinking my spark plugs arent getting juice or something to do qith fuel

If the converter is 99% to 100% plugged it would not start.

The rotten egg smell is the caty converter stopped up,it will do one or the other, stop fuel,or over load it with fuel, therefore flooding it.

I agree with those guys. I have a feeling you buy the cheapest gas you can find, which is not a good idea. It does not have the detergents your car needs, all gas is not the same. In quality and right additives. That will ruin your cat. Now correct me if I am wrong about the gas you buy. But with all due respect to FoR. the man knows what he is talking about -- it need not be 99% plugged. Even ½ plugged will cause a no-start

Road trips with women can become no-so-pleasurable ... it seems as if my wife has to pee twice as often than usual. And she refuses to just go behind a bush, even in on a desolate road in the desert in S, Calif

Also, the 'rotten egg' odor could be your battery being overcharged from a faulty voltage regulator. If the alternator keeps trying to put juice in an already full charged battery, it sorta like a sulfur or even resembles a propane odor

I have sort of the same issue mine smells like that after accelerating sometimes and I use the regular fuel, should I use a better one? If so is there a tapering process?
