It's all according to the type of motor in your sunfire i believe. The 2.4 quad 4 was never a good motor for many kms, there were at least two different 2.2 litre engines before they even came out with the ecotech in 2002, which didn't prove as good as the old 120hp 2.2.

so does that mean theres something wrong with the ecotech? Im thinking about buying a 2002 sunfire with an ecotech. It has 198000 miles.

i have 473,299 miles on a 96 Chevy Cavaleir with a Sunfire 2.2L engine, i keep the oil changed regularly, plugs and wires every year with plug gap checks every 4 months, never let the gas get below a quarter tank and this thing runs down Caddilacs on the interstate

I have the 2005 Sunfire base model with 241K miles on it. Only have replaced the clutch and alternator and fuel pump. If you care for the car, with basic maintenance they are tough as hell. I've hit a deer and drove off fine with just a fender bent. I also smashed my hand print into the back trunk lid a few months ago trying to close it in frustration.

I had mine hauled off at 300,400 miles after getting another car. It needed a new timing chain kit, clutch, and cv axles were going bad again. Not worth fixing and didn't have the time.

Sadly at 385000, I had to junk my 2005 Sunfire because of the shape the body was in and it needed a headgasket. I did not feel it was worth repairing.

And I was trying to decide if I should get the struts and shocks replaced. My 2005 Sunfire has a measly $165,000k on it so thanks for all the good words about this car. I am spending the money and keeping it.

I have a 2000 sunfire coupe base model 145k miles. The ac and radio doesn't work and rear bulbs keep burning out. Recently the gas sensor was replaced. I had also had the belt replace at some point. Engine seems ok but more and more the engine is starting to make funny noises. Also if I floor it the engine will jerk when gear shifts. I'm thinking of trading it in for 2015 hyundai elantra gt but I think this baby can make it to 200k. It still gets me from point a to b.

I had a 1996 Sunfire (bought new) that lasted for 14 years and 225,000 miles until it died in an intersection.
