Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Sunfire fuel pump quit working. Would
not kick on at all. Replaced it with a used
one from salvage yard. The one that I put in
only clicks when you turn the key and will
not run. Am I doing something wrong?
Please help me ASAP

I have no power from relay to purple wire in harness by driver door. Is this controlled by ignition switch

Here is what I have. Put in fuel pump. Have no power at purple wire. I ran external power to purple wire and an external ground. Fuel pump comes on when I tap on tank but not keeping engine running. The pump will not come on with key all of the time even wires this way.

The fuel pump runs when you tap on the tank is the best indicator of a bad pump I know of. Keep in mind the fuel pump only gets power for 3-10 sec every time you turn the switch on. The fuel pump relay is under the hood you can bypass it then go back to the pump connection and check for power or listen for the pump to run. Still sounds like a bad pump to me, especially when the pump runs after tapping the tank.

Thanks. I have been pulling my hair out. I think I have a bad pump ground. Going to check it in morning

Have 12v to main power at fuel pump connector but no low power reading at purple wire. Only 1 power reading at relay and that is pin 30

With the switch on there should be power at one of the 2 lower numbers (small pins) if you jumper the 2 large pins #30 and #80 or higher number together the pump should run. #84-85 or the 2 smaller pins one gets power when the switch is on and the ECM grounds the relay so if you put a test light between the 2 small terminals it should lite for 2-10 sec then go off every time the switch is turned on

Thanks for your help. Let everyone know that the black and white wire at the fuel pump plug(pigtail) needs to be tight. That was my entire problem. Found the loose wire by accident, spliced in a new pigtail and she's running fine.

Loose if I turn on and off my ignition like 10 times it will turn over and run as long as I need just barely figured that out but if I just try to start it it will just shut off and after I get it turned over it will not start again until I wait about an hour I think I might have a bad wire somewhere
