Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 99 sunfire gt accelerates prety strong up to 180 then the speedo tops out and the car keeps accelerating i kinda lost my nerve at that point and took my foot off the floor. but i'm fairly certain the previous owner put high comp pistons in it.

Sounds like you are using the metric system.. I would have to guess that it is 180 KPH and you should be hitting the governor somewhere around there but you most likely have it tuned out of your PCM. What mods do you have on the car? Intake, exhaust, etc?

My 2001 Sunfires speedo goes up to 110mph. I've had the needle bouncing off the little peg that stops the needle from doing clock like circles so I had to have been doing 125-130mph.....no ECM cut my fuel off and mine is bone stock just like Pontiac built in '01.
