1994 Pontiac Firebird electrical system

Asked by Charles Apr 02, 2010 at 05:39 PM about the 1994 Pontiac Firebird

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On a 94 firebird what are the most common locations for a short?

My battery will drain to a dead state within a week from some unknown draw of power.

When started there is a clicking near the battery in the headlight area but the passenger controls for the window and lock are inoperable and a short may be there also. Thoughts?

charge battery...place ammeter in SERIES with battery negative and negative cable. observe drain....start pulling fuses one by one until you see drain dissappear...this will tell you what circuit is draining the battery....then test that circuit for shorts....hope that helps...

check alternator it can cause this problem with the dieo sticking open

Also please note the electrical system of your Fire bird's ABS Computer and ABS Speed Sensor attached on which if they are short circuited, they tend to drain more power from the batteries.
