replaced timing chain on my 03 ION 3 - now leaking oil. Is there is replacement seal that I should have put on the harmonic balancer?

Leaking oil - oil plug is fine. I did not use any sealant around the gasket when replacing
the engine cover, nor did I do anything where the cover goes over the crank shaft. What
should I have done?

I have not been under the car to tell, but I would assume so. Speaking with a friend he mentioned that I should have used some sealer, do you know the correct procedure when replacing engine/timing cover?.
it should have been changed. it come in the gasket kit.i use 3m on the crank seal to timing cover..if it the pan to timing cover i use rtv red.just like the red for its heat tolerances and the other gaskets also..
"the right stuff" is a sealer you use in the place of RTV. A crankshaft front seal may be behind the timing cover if the engine has a timing belt. every kind I have had apart was. It would also be behind the crank gear for the belt. The service manual is available at the library for free. you can look at the pictures. either in the book or using the pro auto database. That's what a tech uses if it seems parts were deleted from a gasket set. Nowadays they separate them into groups and you do not always get what you need without asking to add that too.
Parts counter people can look these things up and see detailed breakdown of a saturn engine
thanks all - will look into this further with reference to library and parts counter.
