I have a 2007 Ion 72,010 miles on it. my car didn't turn on last night. Was told 3 weeks ago need new battery. Got new battery today and still wont turn on. Is it a kill switch issue, locking it?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2007 4 door Saturn Ion dead battery but got new one, and car stuill wont turn on.  Shop tested, and says starter is fine.  Is it the ignition switch causing this problem.  The one with the recall I keep hearing about?  Could the ignition create an electrical problem preventing the battery from turning on the car?  Car was running perfectly well until it died last night.

I don't any anti theft device? Is it automatic? I believe I read it had on some pamphlet, but I really don't know what it is.

Not a Saturn guy but try following the positive lead from the battery to the starter. See if there is a fusible link. The recall you were talking about was for the ignition, but it was the key turning freely backwards shutting the electrical off while driving. What you can do is run power directly to the starter and see if it turns the engine over. If it does, the problem is somewhere between the ignition and the starter. Have you checked your main fuses under the hood yet?

Did you get the right battery for your car with the appropriate cold cranking amps. Check your terminals for good connection.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I found this to be a exclusive Saturn issue. The recall on the faulty ignition switch preventing electrical current from allowing the engine to turn on. had tire kingdom run diagnostics on the car and told me the starter turns on. They can see no reason yet other than electrical why it won't turn on. Had car towed to the authorized Saturn Dealer this morning to get the recall issues done. Hopefully this will resolve.

I have had the ignition switch replaced 4 times for this, 2005 Ion, but it starts up again after anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours. It didn’t stay dead as long as yours. There are codes that show up when the dealer runs diagnostics. Last year my car died like yours when I was driving in the middle of the road, Christmas Eve, could not get a tow. A cop pushed it to the side and gave me a ride home. It turned out there is a battery in the trunk under the spare tire. Water was getting in there from rain, car washing and not draining, the station pulled out plugs to drain it and fixed a cable that had corroded. The weatherstripping was coming off two windows which I had replaced at the dealership, plus they found the rear end had not been properly repaired by a body shop which was causing water to get in. They drilled through the plugs permanently so water wouldn’t pool up, and I sealed the spots where it was coming in myself according to what they suggested (rather than pay thousands to redo the body work.) I had no idea there are 2 batteries and one is in the trunk!

Guys this is the stupidest thing ever but make sure the 3 7mn bolts in the fuse box are tightened down otherwise your pcm won't make a good connection. And do as yall are saying.. my dumbass just did that and everything is fine now
