I have a 1998 subaru forester with the 2.5 flat 4 twin cam. The body rusted out but engine and tranny are great. Can I swap the motor into a 2001 forester body?

The first gen 2.5 DOHC was Subaru's worst engine; almost all of them internally blew their head gaskets, and don't suffer a pricey rebuild very well, often throwing rods soon after. Just don't do it!

This motor has just over 200k on it. No gasket priblems and just replaced the timing belt. It has been super solid, and if the swap would work it will only cost abour $800 fir the whole project. Just want to know if it will work or not.

Will that $800 include swapping the ECM and any exhaust and harness differences? Ensure that the 4EAT is identical too.
