Subaru legacy 98 gtb transmission or clutch problem?

Asked by Jpalm Aug 11, 2014 at 07:29 AM about the 1998 Subaru Legacy

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So a disaster occured today as I was driving 80k shifting from 5th gear accidentally into
second gear!! I now can not use any gear or reverse. If I put my car into any gear as I
release the clutch a grinding/squeaking noise happens.

Clutch or transmission, advice please??

At best you blow the clutch. At worst both the transmission and the clutch. Any way you look at it. It's not pretty.

There are no access panels on subaru transmissions unfortunately. You will have to remove the transmission from the car to find out for sure whats going on.
