subaru weird noise in the back

when I turn off the engine after few minutes or
even hours, a weird sound occurs in the back left
side of the car ( sounds like a fridge starting to
chill) ... it starts and stops randomly, an occur
multiple times , even for many hours. what is it ? is
it normal ?
the sound comes from  thr top of the back left
wheel

The sound is your compressor for your air ride suspension. It's more common on luxury cars but not uncommon on Subaru Legacy's. The sound is normal when you shut the car off but if it's running for hours, you have an air leak.

I had that system on my buick , every time you stated it the compressor would come on, I didn't know what it was , eventually the new rear shocks completely seized up and I went with a coil over conversion set , $300** bucks thrown into the scrap heap , isn't that nice ?
