excessive oil use

Asked by smwarp Jun 28, 2015 at 09:14 PM about the 2001 Toyota Celica

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 that is using oil, she drives great no loss of power but just took a trip off around 600 miles used 2 1/2 quarts of oil. My check engine light has been on always
the catalytic converter, my machanic says just keep watch on my oil, I only have 130000 miles.  So sick shes paid for is there anything I can do?  Not leaking at all, just using.  How long till she becomes a bug sprayer?? I went thru 2 car faxes and still had been wrecked maybe got hot and the seals around the pistons expanded.......

More than likely not the ring,s,it will be the valve guide seals that are bad,you said you have good power and no smoke, that leads me to beleve the valve guide seals are bad,if it was the ring,s you would be smoking already,my advice would be change your oil on time and when you do change it add some lucas oil treatment with your changes, should run for a good while as is,but do as your mechanic said and check oil at least every three days depending on how far you drive her.
