help my door wont close

the passenger door was half open and i opened it and now it wont close i had to use a bungy cord to hold it to get home is there a diagram on what the door latch looks like?its cold out there can u help. ty lori

When you try to close the door, does it just thud against the car and fall back open? Check the latch mechanism. if it's in the closed position, hold the door handle open, and pull the latch down. if this was the problem, your door should close fine now.
