f-body motorsports, hawksthirdgenparts.com, slponline.com, ebay.com. craigslist.com, summitracing, jegs, most performance websites have stuff for the 350 tpi. If you want good street power get the lt1 hotcam and have the lt1 intake drilled to fit your distributor, it will make some good power in the loaw range and higher end
thanks for the info but im low on cash so the intake stuff is to costly and i have the 305 tpi not the 350 or any lt1 plus chevy never put the 350 into production for the 1986 year they were just test cars thanks any way
dude im not trying to be an ass here but sell it or do an engine swap. the 86 was the worst performing year ever. that 305 tpi got a different cam and lost a ton of hp. they also did make a 350 tpi that year but it was extremely rare. if i was you i would save the cash and do an ls1 swap or save up and get an 88-89 with 350tpi. just my opinion
you dont have to have a lt1 to use the hot cam in your engine, tpi is a dead end motor lots of torque no horsepower and having a 305 you need to upgrade
i wouldnt say the tpi is a dead end motor. you can get that motor to run 13s with simple aftermarket parts(full exhaust, chip, thermostat, cai, throttle body, and runners). granted those parts add up but you also get to say you still have the original tpi motor under the hood. it also doesnt struggle to hit 140 mph either.
oh it is a dead end i had a 350 tpi, and i was pushing 340hp and 400tq from small mods here and there, but building top end is harder in that car and costs much more then some simple add-ons, you get into the block vs bolt on. He wants some simple power and the cheapest easy power is rear end gears. If you have a automatic 3:42 is a great all around gear, i had 3:73 in my 87 GTA and at 80mph i was pushing 3,000rpm but in my 83 camaro (carb) i have 3:73's and a 5 speed and its lower then that in 5th and gas mileage isnt bad with the manual.
right he wants simple power. i dont think hes trying to build a 500 hp motor. i had a 350 tpi also and i loved it. i ran high 13s in my 89 iroc. all i did to it was kyb shocks and struts, full dynomax exhaust, hypertech chip, 180 degree thermostat, throttle body air foil, shift kit, K&N air filter, and cross drilled slotted vented rotors. mine also came stock with an oil cooler, 4 wheel disc brakes, and borg warner rear axles. i never even did runners which is one of the biggest flaws in the tpi and i got great performance out of mine. i loved my 350 tpi.
the one item you missed is simple power in a 305, it takes a bit more work and money to make the same kind of power from the 350, the engine only is 160hp at best at least the 350 came with 220 so making power with your little upgrades is easy, as it was with mine. Gears will be his easiest way and cheapest without any sacrifice to the integrity of the engine or trans
thats why i suggested he do a ls1 swap or a 350 tpi swap or sell the car and get something different.
wasnt arguing but i didnt see anything suggesting a swap lol.
If its a 350 car get a holley stealth ram intake a set of afr 195 heads good cam and a custom chip. 330+ rwhp and mid to low 12 on motor.
