Don't know what the problem is.

Asked by Damir-Paul Mar 12, 2018 at 06:11 AM about the 1997 Audi A4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, i would appreciate if you can help me. First thing sorry for my english, i
may not know correct names in english. I have Audi A4 B5 1997, 1.6, 74 kw.
The thing is that car runs fine for about day or two, and then when the car is
cold it wont accelerate, it smothers, some times it takes up to 5 seconds to
start the engine. When that happens i disconnect and reconnect the battery
and then is all fine for another day or two. I have changed sparks, sparks
cables, water temperature sensor, i even change the ecu and still no
changes. Thanks.

It could be several thins, first I would clean the MAF sensor, it could also have a bad EGR valve. While you are there clean the throttle body really good..

Thanks for quick response. Later today i will scan it for codes and se what it says. I will clean the MAF sensor, throttle body and check ERG valve and get back to you. Thank you for the help.

When i scanned for codes it shows only 18010, i am guessing because i have disconnected the battery before. I have cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body. About the ERG valve, it is missing, some one removed it before. I am having the same problem as before, no changes. What else could it be?
