The Malibu was the higher luxury version, where the Chevelle was more performance geared.

The Malibu was also a Chevelle, however it had upgrades such as carpet,interior trim,head rests,etc. It was a package that could be added to the basic Chevelle to build on to the car that you ordered. Way back then, when you went to the new car dealer and he (or she) didn't have the exact car in stock, it was ordered custom from the factory and you waited several months for delivery. With computers today, the dealer can locate any car at any other dealership and have it shipped to his site. I still own my 1972 Chevelle Malibu SS 454 that I ordered from the dealer way back in August 1971
