Is my Chevelle a real SS?

Question type: General

I have a 71 Chevelle SS with a 350 block.

The interior says Malibu on the door panels
and there’s no gauge on the dash.. however I
did do some online research and it says 2 of
the 350 models did come with the optional
SS trim package “this was more for
cosmetics”

I researched my vin and it says either for the
SS model or Malibu ..

I’ve had people stare that because it’s a 350
it’s not a SS and also because there’s no rpm
guage on the dash..

I verified that the 350 does come with the
optional SS package however I’m not sure
for the rpm guage .. it’s also a steering wheel
shifter not floor shifter.

Any way to further verify ?

Sorry to say bro but it seems like you got a clone without the other instruments and everything most people say that the SS was the big block with a 4-speed optional automatic with rare

By '71, the SS option could come with any engine/tranny combo. The VIN will not help either, like it would with earlier SS models. The Chevelle forums and registries are your best bet to unravel your SS mystery.

Just to inform everyone I do have a real SS 72 chevelle that’s been decoded in the vin number as a true SS 350 car ordered from the factory out of the Baltimore plant and I do have pieces of my build sheet to prove it just and FYI to the guy with the 71 chevelle they did build them one just went on Barrett Jackson’s auction for 43000
