I have a SB engine in a 69 Camaro I bought. I'm trying to find out exactly what it is. The code on the engine pad is CPB. I can't find anything that matches this code. Anyone know what it is?

http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro76.php According to what I've found It is a 305ci motor from the 1976 Camaro. Not a powerhouse by any means. Look at the top, third column under Suffix codes.
Thanks alot for the info! Guess I can trash any ideas about rebuilding it. Figured it was some kind of a dog motor. It was supposed to be a 350 and I've driven alot of 350's with 100K miles plus on them that had more guts than this thing. Still don't regret buying the car tho. Looks like I'm in the market for another 350HP Crate motor. Thanks again for clearing up the mystery!
No problem man. Yeah a 305 is definately not what you were hoping for I know, and to be perfectly honest im suprised such a clean resto would utilize such an engine. Good lookin car for sure. Good luck with it.
just a thought but maybe a 396 instead? ive found them in junk yards before for $500. wouldnt be a bad rebuild project and you could put that nice 396 badge on the side if you wanted also
Actually, I've done (or HAD someone do) the resto work. The engine was last on my list. Here's a pic of the car when I bought it a few years ago. Really wanted to get it looking original ASAP. That meant houndstooth interior and the Z/28 paint.
If I find/buy a BB, I will put that in my 71 Chevelle and take the <10K miles 350 HP crate motor out of it and put it in the Camaro. I feel the A bodies are made for BB's and F bodies are more suited for SB's. (unless, of course the frame is beefed up)
"After" interior renovation
thats a good idea too. i would rather have the 454 for the chevelle but the 396 is a beast. friends of my dads has a chevelle with a 396 and it rips the tires 6 inches of the ground bone stock. another idea most people dont think of is the 427 small block. its my dream to have a 69 ss camaro with a 427 small block. they make perfectly balanced engine blocks that have the bore for a 427 but you need to buy all the aprts sperate to really make it something special. just another thought for you to look into. it would be something pretty original
Very nice Brian, I really like the interior. I have an A-body and an F-body myself. Theres nothing quite like them. 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass, and also a 1969 Pontiac Firebird.
