How does the new one measure up to the old one? Check the old pump and see if it is damaged. Also, not sure if this possibility extends to your vehicle, but newer ford trucks sometime develop a fault in the EVAP system. Basically the system seals itself off creating a vacuum inside the tank when gas is pumped to the engine. The tank can begin to crush like a beer can from the vacuum. I've seen 25 gallon tanks imploded to the point where they could only hold five gallons of gas until full. Visually check the tank for deformation.
