if most of your driving is under 35mph it will never engage in the first place, unless you're talking about a stickshift, as long as you aren't boggin' the engine and hear crackling on acceleration (very bad) why would you want to? it's 5th gear so you can enjoy higher than 55~ your automatic will not engage the overdrive unless you're doin' that anyways- when I was taught stick, was told 1st gear was just to get you moving, 2nd is where you'll be until you get a good clip on, 3rd gets you above School Zone speeds and 4th is freeway speed...now if you'd like to be toolin' around the school zones 25mph in fourth gear, who am I to question your motives?
NO YOU SHOULD NOT. THE ONLY THING YOUR GOING TO DO IS MESS UP THE TRANNY. THE OVERDRIVE IS ONLY IF YOUR TAKING ON A STEEP HILL THAT YOUR CAR IS STRUGGLING WITH.
"The overdrive is only if your taking on a steep hill that your car is struggling With". Pay no mind to that.

Yes-I think He mixed up "passing-Gear",with Overdrive,on that one..
According to the Ford owner's manuals ever since the first AOD, you leave it in overdrive under normal driving. IF you are finding that due to road conditions it is hunting or shifting in and out often, then disengage overdrive. The other time you do NOT use overdrive is when you are towing. Other than that, let the machinery do its job for best economy.
