trouble repairing 5 speed transmission clutch
had clutch and other things replaced; transmission put back in, no reverse. "fork was out of place". fixed. transmission put back in vehicle, now its stuck in fifth gear. the mechanic has asked me to look online to see proper placement of spring in box above transmission. i have been without a vehicle for NINETY DAYS. could it be this difficult? can you help?
is this little piece of wire what all the fuss is about?...clearly the installer did not blast this whole mechanism free of dust and dirt...so it did not seat properly~....make him fix it~!
he's asking me to find out exactly where it needs to be placed!
don't know if you've got "rent a wreck" for like thirty dollars a day...used to in Wisconsin....where they are all wrecks~
in NC. bought this vehicle 3 years ago. clutch was slipping then when i did a lot of in town driving. more recently, i was unable to shift into reverse, but continued driving it until i could afford to get it fixed. before it was towed, i lost all ability to shift into any gear. assumption was that clutch was problem. so that got replaced, along with fly wheel. transmission worked just fine "on the ground", but still didn't have reverse when installed back into the car. told me then that fork was either bent or not placed properly, so took it back out. finally got that fixed, everything reinstalled, and now stuck in fifth gear. i have not received my car back at all during this process. today he called and asked if i could get a diagram of transmission, specifically the little box that sits on top of the transmission, because he believes that the current problem is simple and he wants to get it finished. i welcome your insight.

my husband is here now.....and he has been helping with repair of the vehicle, and is able to provide more specific information about the question the mechanic is asking. thank you so much for the diagram..... and the current question is this: there is a rod that goes down into the transmission and hooks from the top to the smaller of the two linkage cables (shown in the left one third of your diagram near the top). there are two, 2 prong springs positioned about an inch below the rod (down inside the casing/not visible). the 4 prongs extend approximately 1 to 1.5 inches toward the right (based on your diagram) and apparently are held in place by the bolt that is inserted from the top of an opening just to the right. this purpose of this bolt (?) is to hold the prongs of the spring in place. the prongs (all four) extend to the right, and are held in place by a bolt that is inserted through the top, just a short distance from the rod where they originate. the question now is: when that bolt is inserted, should all the prongs be in front of the bolt, behind the bolt, some in front and some behind (and if in different directions, which level prongs should go in which direction)?
the spring in your picture and diagram is NOT the spring that i'm referring to. to clarify about fork and reverse, all of that has been fixed. this is a different problem. again, thank you for any advice you can give.
