Help! Car wheel makes loud thumping noise sounding like flat tire at 60 mph

Asked by cobaltglass Jun 05, 2010 at 11:44 PM about the 2002 Honda CR-V

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 CR-V started making a loud thumping noise from front passenger side today after getting up to 60 mph on freeway....sounded like a flat tire...stopped and checked...tire wasn't flat but air pressure was a little low...started going again and it did it again when reaching 60 mph...steering wheel shakes almost violently and when braking vibration comes through petal...loud thumping continues for about 3 minutes and then suddenly stops....pulled over again and checked lug nuts ok...but that hubcap is very hot to touch... when started to go again at about 5 mph noticed ever so slightly click noise coming from that side of car...over the winter this tire seemed to loose pressure rather often..is it the tire or something else????  cr-v has 150,000 miles and the michelin tires have 30,000 miles...
