Ran out of gas, now car won't stay on.

My truck ran out of gas, and wouldn't start back up. That was over a month
ago, and we've just kind of let it sit in our driveway. I jumped it today and I
heard the fuel pump and it started. It only stayed running for a few minutes
then shut off. What can I do to troubleshoot the problem so I don't end up
buying a ton of parts that I don't need?

you would need a fuel pressure gauge and make sure the fuel pressure stays constant or if it drops off if it does then one of two things could happen a bad fuel pump or a clogged strainer or fuel fillter

I would also recommend adding 2 - 3 gallons of gas. If it ran out, you may need extra in the tank if the truck is not on level ground.
