2001 chevy s10 wont start after running out of gas

Asked by Michele Dec 20, 2018 at 12:15 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

is there just air in the line when a chevy s10 runs out of gas?Im pretty sure it's
fuel injected. So would it be the fuel line ,or pump burned out? Because I know
for sure it was run out of gas more than three times before it would not start and
stay running. Sometimes out of the blue when we try to turn it over it will start
then I shut it off, try again will not start.

Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Engine cranking do you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse? Is this 4.3L engine? use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, key on engine off, 60--66psi. At initial key on engine off, can you hear the pump run for a couple seconds? At the fuel pump, gray wire is voltage, black is ground, check with engine cranking. Any applicable trouble codes?
