T-5 from a camaro is a good start, it's what I used for my swap and so far I like it, but I'm only running a mildly built 305. Additionally the camaro T-5 is only rated to handle 300 ft-lbs of torque in stock configuration. I picked mine up for $300, but recently put another $600 into it to have it rebuilt. Summit Racing sells a version that will handle 400 ft-lbs of torque for I believe $1600. The T-56 (used in 1990s c4 corvettes, and yes Vipers) is also rated for 400 ft-lbs of torque (Viper units I believe were higher torque rating. However may have a different input shaft so I am not sure if one from a viper would be a direct bolt on), and a used unit will set you back the about the same amount of dough as the Summit Racing unit, unless you get a smoking deal.

if you haven't decided on the trans you want you might want to check out the car auction site http://copart.com. I don't know a lot about cars but my boyfriend is really into them and I used copart.com to help him find cars with the parts he needed in the past...including a new transmission. might be worth checking out...
