Need to check the fuel pressure, and do a bleed down test. Fuel pressure should be 56 to 63 lbs, and should hold on a fuel pressure gauge for 3 min. without dropping 5 lbs.
This would show if it is the fuel pump or leaky fuel injectors.
can I rent a furl pressure gauge from local parts store?
and if its not holding the fuel pressure would I need to change fuel filter and pump?
You would want to try changing the fuel filter first if it has not ben changed in a long time. It is under the drivers side door. If the fuel pressure is low, you would need to change the fuel pump in the gas tank. If the fuel pressure bleeds off then the spider injection, spider lines and fuel regulator would have to be changed out. This all comes as an assembly.
Oh, yes you should be able to rent a fuel pressure gauge. Make sure you tell them what you are check in-order to get the right fitting to go onto the Schrader valve.

Check all tune up components, Air filter, Spark plugs, wire ect and locate any vacuum leaks if any, and check all fuses under dash and hood and if check engine light is on have a parts store scan for it and then check all components that use its information or it uses their information to operate before replacing parts (aka throwing money away).
