if the light is on then go to autozone
First check you gas cap. Check the rubber gasket on it, it's like a big 'O' ring If the car is not acting up, I personally wouldn't even worry about it. $80 is a lot of money to me too, but crumbob's suggestion is good, if you go to a large parts house, have it scanned, free, even if the light is not on. When the light was on, it stored a code that will still be there. But don't buy electrical parts the clerks say you need and can't be returned. Come back here with the codes(s) first, and one of us will help you, or drop me a PM otherwise I won't know if you did scan it.

Thanks for your answer I will check the rubber gasket. Autozone doesn't do free code checks at least were I am at.
Not where I live either. That's why I bought a scanner, but NOT from them, from Amazon. I have the same car, a 2006 Corolla LE
