Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Toyota Tundra 06 will not crank/start. It has a charged battery and the fuse looks ok. People have
suggested it is the neutral safety switch. How can I test it?

It doesn't make a sound when turning the key but everything lights up. At one time I moved the shifter back and forth then tried again and it started. Now it won't even do that.

Did you try starting in the Neutral position, instead of Park?

It looks like it is a problem with the starter. It confused us because it didnt even make a click sound when turning the key. But when we tapped it with a hammer and turned the key it started. It also was strange that we moved it to neutral then back to park and it would start a few times then completely stopped working.

When it won't turn over and you have an anti-theft disable device, don't forget to check the anti-theft devise. I just spent 3 hours trying to determine what was wrong and apparently the contacts were bad after just sitting for 10+ years. Pulled it out and plugged it back in several times to make sure it was making good contact and it started right up.

My 2005 tundra wouldn't start (no crank or click) after filling up at costco. I opened the fuse panel (as I was waiting for a tow) near the left side of the steering column and pulled the brown 5 fuse (IGN) and switched it with another in the panel and it barely cranked. I tried again and it started. It might be a failing starter or just the fuses.

My 4.7, 2005 Tundra has a problem starting. It'll sometime click or or no sound. Lights all come on. After a few times then it starts. Just replaced the starter 3mths ago and battery is fully charged. What could be the problem?

Try starting it with the shift lever in neutral. We just had this problem on a 2005 and when put in neutral, the engine started. GSI

It was the starter for me the clip from the relay for the starter wire going onto the the starter was faulty bad connection I replaced it and boom after check continuity on both starter wires. Made sure connection would work and without spraying coolant all over the place and put her back together after replacing gaskets and cleaning. Started right up. Test the starter after taking it out and before putting the knew one in.
