Car Thermostat

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hello. Lately I've noticed that my cars thermostat
jumps to the half mark much quicker. While driving
the more I accelerate the higher it goes and it
tends to go above the "H" while sitting with the
keys in the ignition but the car not turned on it
kinda sits at the half mark. Can anyone help me
with what may be causing this?
Thanks!

You may want to have the cooling system pressure tested as there could be a coolant leak present casing the vehicle to over heat. Additionally I would check the vehicles coolant level. If you are smelling any sort of sweet smell, this typically is a coolant leak. If this does not help, you may have a problem with the vehicle water pump, and or thermostat.
Does the engine sound like it's boiling or cooking after you turn it off? It's not unusual for the temp gauge to climb when the engine is off and the coolant no longer circulating. The temp sensor is mounted high on the engine and heat rises. If the temp gauge goes hot or close to it while driving you may have a bad thermostat if it gets hot at idle check the cooling fan operation by running the engine at idle until the fan comes on around Two Twenty to Two Forty degress. The numbers just stopped working on my iPad and I can't fix it. I hope this helps. Take care?
