Why is my car grinding while I drive?

Asked by Keith Sep 17, 2013 at 04:34 PM about the 2003 Toyota Matrix XR

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car sounds like I have metal to metal contact. It sounds a lot like braking with worn
out brake pads. I get this grinding noise when the car is in motion. The noise starts at
first when I brake but then it continues as I drive, braking and not braking. I checked and
my pads are in good condition, they are no way close to wearing out.

Any ideas would be great.

check for sticking calibers on disc brakes, worn wheel bearings will sound like a rolling train without showing much looseness also!

I am having a same problem with my Matrix 04, on the passenger side sounds like metal to metal grind noise. I don't even have to turn to hear it, it's always there.

I haven't had the time to get mine fixed just yet, but I am starting to wonder if my rotors are bent. My wheels get stuck, and I usually have to pound them loose with a small sledge hammer. I wonder if this bent the rotor just enough.
