how do I fix this problem is it the switch or sensor?

Sounds like the switch. If I'm not mistaken, the sensor is built into the switch.

If you are pushing the lock button; that is how it is supposed to work. If it just happens at anytime without pushing the button; then a wire could be worn through the insulation and is bouncing on metal & shorting out the switch causing it to work. Or as BohoMark said the switch its self could be bad. Check the wires going through the door from the door frame and pull the door panel and see what you see: bare wire? broken contact? bad switch? Fix as needed. Good Luck

thank you gentlemen, it seems its a wire somewhere, I changed the switch and its still acting up.
I recently had the same problem. The only difference I saw was that my display would go between day and night mode while my DRL were on. It made it hard to see the display while backing up during day time. This all happened while the car was in motion.
faulty connections," grounding", are the bane of a mechanics existence. Hard to find. Have you asked a Toyota service center about the problem? They may have the equipment to isolate the component or area of the problem; so you can decide which way to go.
