torsional spring inside the pulley? should be easy to rotate counter- clockwise to release the tension~ there is NO hold down....it is only spring tension what holds the belt in...could push on the belt and watch which part "gives"...unbolt that part~

lefty-loosy righty tighty...we are taking it off...do you have the replacement kit and new belt already?...push real hard on the belt and watch what gives...that's what you want to start the attack with~

anyways you can feel when the right torque is there, like never could take the "click" torque wrenches...always felt short-changed like MORE torque is needed...that's why when putting head bolts always use the bendy needle scale type~

it's really a low-tech operation these days...not like V-belts and the 3/16 play with a special tool and all that nonsense...this one has an idler that will wear unevenly and send the flat belt against one side...it will make noise and you'll know that the belt and tensioner are needed then~....much easier...and with the spring loaded tensioners we don't even have to adjust anything....brilliant!~

I thought it was the idler pulley bolt, it is the crankshaft pulley, my husband tried inpact wrench and pry bar. will not come off. what is the torque on it?

NO prying should be needed, it's like three 12 or 13mm bolts as I recall...when the tension is pushed back the belt will be slack and just come off...this is low-tech stuff here...perhaps you are making this more complicated than it need be.....easy...push on the belt, watch what is taking up the play...that will be a spring loaded tensioner (which you're gonna replace) when you put a new flat belt in there~
