Travsmission will not engage any gear, Transmission or something else?

Asked by StevenFBarr Jul 07, 2014 at 10:18 AM about the 1998 Toyota Sienna

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Travsmission will not engage any gear.  Shift, and nothing.  Then when you go to put it
back in park, it buzzes before dropping into park.   Is this the transmission or something
else?  What kinda cost do ya think?

I think the transmission is still ok. It sounds like it is engaging into gears but not moving. The answer maybe within the axles. It really sounds like some gear or spline is stripped.

Hi my name is Jerry , I had the same problem two days ago what I did I change both axle ,that cost me $ 320.00 with tax and that took care of the problem. If you want to make sure that is the axles lift your car on the front and check under Neath and you will see if your axle are turning in my case the right side was broke but is good to change both. Make sure that your care is not going to fall on you, remember safety first.also you can do that job your self is no a big deal.

Did you ever get an answer Steven? I am having the same problem on my 2010 Toyota - it was running fine until this happened.
