In order to not change intake manifold you are probably going to have to put a riser on it, which is fine as long as it fits under the hood. The BelAir did not have a 4bbl option in '63, those figures are generic from other Chevrolet and GM products. not BelAir specific and all at flywheel
Thank You so much it was very helpful. any thoughts on how much the dual exhausts with a K&N cartridge air filter might add? 3 or 4 HP perhaps?
At least. Right around that number
No stick with the old stuff get the right intake and I think AFB Carter's looks more nostalgic 400 or 450 cfm's won't change the horse much
A 4 bbl will increase peak horsepower, but it will also increase cruising fuel economy if you use the right intake and carb. I've had the best luck for this combo with the Edelbrock Performer series. A good dual exhaust, with a cross over, is likely to add between 20 and 25 horsepower, and as much as 5 or 6 mpg as a bonus, plus sounding much better
I agree with Michael. Before I bought my '78 F 250 I had a '76 Ford F250, (I don't remember when the 360 and 390 were discontinued. It was either '76 or '77 because when I bought my 1978 I couldn't get either, it has a 351 Winsdsor) ,anyway in my '76 360 it came factory with a 2bbl and I put a Edelbrock intake and Holley 600cfm 4 bbl and Hooker Headers. At first it ran like crap, but I put a 1" rised under the carb and it ran like a (can we say raped ape?)don't know how much more hp I got but it was VERY obvious and mileage increased. At the time Calif. smog was not as stringent as today and I got away with it.
I appreciate everyone's helpful answers. Now to check out carubretor;s and their claims and ratings etc. :-)
Charles, my brother did the Edelbrock intake and carb, dual exhaust, and added an overdrive automatic to a 351 in a 79 Thunderbird and did 40 miles to the Imperial gallon, or about 35 to the U.S. gallon. Pretty impressive for a car that size and weight.
