what should the average temperature of the car run when in town?

Asked by wicked1 Feb 13, 2007 at 07:54 PM about the 1986 Chevrolet Corvette

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought an 86 Vette and the coolant temp has gotten up to around 220 when im in town but runs around 170 to 180 when on the highway is that normal

Hello, 220 is a bit warm, but this depends on the climate in which you live. It will run warmer when you are in town for the same reason you get worse mileage in town: lots of starts and stops. Here is some more information on temperature in Corvettes: http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40453 Best of luck! CarGrrl
