transfer case

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

transfer case does not shift.  i can drive the truck and shift from 2H to 4H and then to 4L and nothing happens.i think the truck is stuck in 4H because the 4 wheel drive light is on and the 4 wheel drive does work.  is there any thing i can try to do before taking truck to the shop.

try backing up for ten to twenty feet in 4L and then put it in neutral and shift out of 4L/4H then put it back into gear and slowly start moving forward or reverse. if the transfer is not locking the hubs the hubs are not engaging and you need to see if they are electronicly or vacuum actuated
